Congratulations to Simran Sethi, host of Ethical Markets TV series, on winning a 2008 regional Emmy for "A School in the Woods," a PBS documentary about the environmental education program at Island Wood in Washington State. Simran has completed an MBA with distinction in sustainable management—integrating social and environmental values with practical business knowledge. She fuses this insight with her extensive experience in television reportage and passion for social and economic justice. Clean Energy Can Fuel Economic Revival, Green Groups Tell Obama

WASHINGTON, DC, November 28, 2008 (ENS) - President-elect Barack Obama can revive the U.S. economy - and combat climate change - by investing in clean energy technologies and strengthening environmental protections, the leaders of major U.S. environmental groups advise. The wish list of policies was delivered to Obama’s transition team by a coalition of 29 organizations, who also urged Obama to swiftly reverse “eight years of environmental neglect” under the Bush administration.

Today, the Secretary-General opened the Follow-up Conference in Doha with a call for boldness, and a will to lead in ‘taming’ global economic turmoil while the General Assembly President said that the transformation of a ‘faltering’ economic and financial system is a moral duty.

Civil Society Gathered in Doha Issues Joint Declaration; Calls on UN Member States to Invest in People-Centred Development
More than 250 representatives of civil society organisations gathered in Doha, Qatar from 26-27 November for the Doha Civil Society Forum under the theme ’Investing in People-Centred Development’ in advance of the Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development. At the conlclusion of the Forum they adopted a joint declaration and selected a representative who delivered their views to UN Member States at the main Plenary of the official Conference this afternoon.
